GUN RUNNER - NEW CHEF-DE-RACE ADDITION
UPDATE FROM DR. STEVEN ROMAN:
6/09/2026
"Following our announcement in April of 23 additions to the chef-de-race roster in order to reinvigorate North American Dosage, Ken Kush and I have completed a second round of chef-de-race updates, bringing our current project to completion.
The Dosage figures for the sub-population of runners by these sires now align with those for the general population of runners across all sires, when sorted by average winning distance.
This has always been the basis for chef-de-race selection.
These latest additions will substantially improve the accuracy of pedigree evaluations going forward.
Future assignments will be made on an individual basis as warranted.
The table below lists the new designations, a mix of current sires and previously overlooked sires from earlier generations."

We also want to express our appreciation for your continuing efforts to make this information available to the broader Thoroughbred community.
All the best,
Steve
Dr. Roman and Ken Kush have now assigned 42 new Chef-de-Race since the beginning of April.
This is a major development in the pedigree and breeding world and it highly affects how we have read these configurations historically and how we must view them moving forward. Everything changes.
Up until just 3 months ago, we were sailing full steam ahead with a set of specific rules which dictated how we gauged the past winners of each specific Graded Stakes race, how they uniformly formed perfect similarities and balances, and how they ultimately related to the present competitors on the field.
The "players" always aligned perfectly with the past.
Their set-ups corresponded to the specific distance of the race, the bias at the specific track, and even the time of year and weather conditions. True to form straight down the list of previous winners, with maybe one or two outliers at best.
The old rules no longer apply because these new chefs have also affected the configurations of those past winners as well. Everything has changed, which means we need to establish a new set of rules to follow that are historically correct moving forward.
It is a daunting task, but it shall be done.
*Pedigreequery has updated Roman's new Chef designations at their site. It's official.

Liam's Map as a new Classic Chef is a bit perplexing but I have every faith in Dr. Roman's designation. I foresee that as being the only one that may present some challenges moving forward for us.
Still use Dr Roman's list in my everyday handicapping of distance stakes races. Thank you!
I would say that Gun Runner was no surprise!
"It is a daunting task, but it shall be done."
We have all the faith in you Lisa. Great work for this year's TC series starting with the prep races.
